Strangely at Home

What does "home" mean to you?
I thought it was appropriate to kick off these blog posts with a page from my old college painting journal. It's a little cringey to me now, in its earnestness. But it describes pretty well what I'm trying to do with Richly Strange, and what I've always tried to do through art. It's all about feeling at home in the world.
Decorating a home has never felt like a trivial thing to me. It doesn't matter if it's an entire house, a room, a small corner, or a shelf. It can be a sacred endeavor.
My ultimate dream home would look something like the Pequod from Moby Dick: lovingly ornamented with teeth and bones, every surface touched, fantastically dark and weathered. I'll take any excuse to share my favorite lines: " A noble craft, but somehow a most melancholy! All noble things are touched with that."(Moby Dick, chapter 16) (Is it obvious that I have always been, if not goth, goth adjacent?)

My fellow bower birds, my Ahabs, you are welcome here.
